The environment

The Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park is located in the extreme north of the province of Huelva. Encompasses 186.000 Hectares and encompasses 28 different municipalities.
The Natural Park is a Biosphere Reserve, is adhered to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, It is a Place of Community Interest (LIC) and Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA). Also, has the Starlight certification due to the minimum light pollution that allows optimal conditions to observe the stars.
The special climatic conditions and the orography of the Sierra give rise to lush vegetation. Depending on the altitude, we will see large extensions of oak meadows, cork and gall oak areas in shady areas and troughs, and chestnut forests in the highest and coldest areas.

The Park hosts a large and varied fauna.

Throughout the year parties are held in the Sierra, giving us another reason to visit and enjoy it. In Spring, Easter offers its own expressions in each town, Summer is the time of fairs and pilgrimages. Autumn gives us the contrast of color in the deciduous trees, the chestnuts, mushrooms, the warmth of the fireplace… .In winter, Christmas shows the horseback riding highlighting those of Higuera de la Sierra and Aracena and February brings us the carnivals

La Sierra offers a wide and well signposted network of trails, with offer for all levels, perfect for practicing Nordic Walking, Mountain Bike, hiking and horse riding. There are also swamps and river pools, where to cool off in the middle of the forest. Similarly, the Sierra de Aracena and the neighboring provinces are an ideal place to practice cycling en route through its network of national and regional roads thanks to the combination of flat areas, ups and downs and good layout of them.

Visiting the towns and villages of the Sierra is a cultural experience and allows us to get in touch with its friendly neighbors. Aracena, The Grotto of Wonders, Cortegana, Jabugo, Alájar, Fuenteheridos, The Riotinto mines… Each town has a special attraction and will surely reward us if we spend part of our time getting to know it.

Gastronomy has a special section in the Sierra as it is the cradle of Jabugo ham and offers excellent mushroom and Iberian dishes. Its traditional dishes, Pots and desserts of a lifetime will not leave you indifferent.
